Managing director Merle Krigul of Euregio, which is handling the tunnel project, said that a study into profitability could begin already in October of next year.
Acquisition of the necessary support sum from Europe is however necessary preceding this. Krigul said a rail ferry transit dock has also been talked about aside of the rail tunnel; however the previously-named project is nevertheless more useful and interesting. "It is actually quite difficult to move between the two capitals in winter. As such, ship traffic between Tallinn and Helsinki is only a partial solution for movement," she explained.
