Vilnius airport hopes to recover a large part of Baltic and Scandinavian flight passengers from Riga, and its main weapon will be the recently adopted tariff discounts, almost identical to the ones Riga airport adopted few years ago and was forced to rein

This is Lithuania's only chance after its national carrier FlyLAL bankruptcy, and AirBaltic will be using the new situation to its full, says an unnamed aviation business expert. AirBaltic CEO Bertolt Flick admits the Vilnius international airport will develop very rapidly, and the Latvian carrier will be able to launch new direct routes to and from this airport - airBaltic plans to unveil five new routes to Vilnius this winter season. Ryanair is currently negotiation the construction of its base in Riga international airport and says its decision will depend on the costs. Several carriers have left Riga airport - although some left it mostly because of the aviation crisis.
