Currently Russian carrier Aeroflot and Latvian national airBaltic share the flights in this route. According to Russian mass media, JUTair plans to use Riga mostly as transit junction for its passengers, who wish to reach destinations in Europe. airBaltic spokesperson Jānis Vanags admits that there is a great demand for Riga-Moscow route, and the number of passengers this May grew by 67% from the May 2009. Part of the passengers from Russia stay in Riga, while others use it to continue travelling to London, Milan, Nice, etc, as it is cheaper than direct flights by Russian carriers. JUTair is the fourth largest Russian carrier by number of passangers carried.
