Irish air carrier Ryanair, which opened its base in Kaunas last month, is pleased with its choice and the results.

However, the company suffers from the problem topical for all air carriers operating in Lithuania: the lack of incoming passengers. Laszlo Tamas, the company's Marketing Director for Eastern Europe, says that Ryanair also misses the initiatives of Lithuanian tourism institutions and the will to communicate with air carriers. "I do not want to judge anyone, but when we informed about the base in Kaunas and said that we planned to service up to a million passengers per year I did not feel that such institutions were very interested. Perhaps, they visit various exhibitions, and I do value that, because promoting the country is important, but it is also important to work with the existing carriers that bring many tourists and to focus on the existing destinations," Mr Tamas says.
