Since then the number of flights and routes have increased remarkably. This change was especially favourable for Kaunas. This year in Kaunas airport Ryanair opened its first base in eastern and western Europe. Currently Ryanair flies 18 routes from Kaunas airport. Aviation specialists were sceptical about the Irish plans to launch flights from Kaunas to the small Finnish town Tampere, however, the results beat expectations. There are no empty seats on Boeing 737-800 which carries 180 passengers, while Lithuanians account only for small share of passengers. Every day 2 or 3 Ryanair aircrafts fly from Kaunas to London with almost all seats sold, as well as for flights to Bristol.
