Department (STD) expects tourism
growth during Christmas

The SDT, forecasts a growth of 6%.
During 2010, Lithuania received 1.5 million tourists, with 2011 expected to have provided an inflow larger then pre-crisis levels. For the first 9 months of 2011, Lithuanian accommodations received 807,000 guests, of which 20.1% where from foreigners. "These figures really exceed our expectations", states SDT Director Dr. Balniene.
During 2011, the STD focused on attracting tourists from the Polish, German, and Russian markets, which it had done with success. During 2011, Polish tourism increased 21.4%, Russian tourism increased by 42.6% and German increased by 38.8%.
